iOS and Edge support HEVC decoding which is really important for
cutting-edge video work, VR, AR and many other things --- and the one
browser that is holding HEVC mass adoption on the web is... Chrome.

iOS/Safari and Edge support it. if Chrome supported HEVC, it would be a no
brainer to use.

I understand Google is also pushing AV1 but it is really far less mature at
this stage. Whether AV1 can be free is still just being verified and will
be . AV1 is 3 or 4 years behind H265 from an deployment perspective (in
consumer phones, computers, etc --- as well as from the content producer
side: from an encoding perspective).

We need Chrome to drive innovation forward to tug it back. Especially with
how dynamic the streaming/OTT industry is today! AV1 is great but HEVC must
be supported.

Why should anyone support proprietary codecs? Mozilla won't be supporting
that abomination either:
