Can I set canary as my default browser?

Instead of editing the registry, use the preferred method for Windows OS:
Set Default Programs in Control Panel

1. Open Control Panel
2. Search for 'default programs'
3. Click on 'Set your default programs'
4. Click on Google Chrome Canary
5. Click on 'Set this program as default'

You should see the 'This program has 0 out of 20 defaults' line change to
something like 'This program has 19 out of 20 defaults'.

That's it. You're welcome.
I'm using canary as my surf the web and development tool. But I meet a
problem, the target link in other app eg: word would be opened in my
default browser chrome not canary, and canary settings says "This is a
secondary installation of Google Chrome, and cannot be made your default
browser."
What can I do? I must accept the facts and open two browsers at the same
time?

This seems to be working (after renaming the folder) BUT it launches the
old version, not Canary...
I tried this mainly because I want to be using the 64-bit version of
chrome...

Go to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default
Programs\Set Program Associations" in Windows and set it as defaults for
everything it can open. It worked with Chrome Canary.

Yes, that probably works. However, Chrome Canary cannot be set as the
default browser from Chrome settings because the Chrome team does not want
a less stable browser to be set as the default. Chrome Canary has the very
latest changes and may change or break at any time; Chrome Dev, Chrome
Beta, or Chrome Stable would be more stable.
